Being sober-curious does not mean you have a problem. It means you are paying attention.
A simple definition
Sober-curious describes anyone choosing to drink less, or not at all, on purpose, without necessarily identifying as being in recovery. You might be cutting back for your sleep, your training, your focus, your mood, or just because the drinks were not adding much.
Why it is growing
More people are noticing the gap between how a night out is marketed and how it actually feels the next morning. Non-alcoholic options got good. And a generation that tracks everything started tracking what alcohol was costing them, in money, energy, and time.
You can be sober-curious and still have a social life
This is the part people get stuck on. If every plan involves a bar, cutting back feels like opting out of your friends. The fix is not willpower. It is better plans. Hikes, mixers, supper clubs, disco nights, masterminds: rooms built so that not drinking is the normal, easy choice.
Where to start
Pick one substance-free event this month and just go. You do not have to label yourself anything. You do not have to explain. Show up, meet a few people, and see how the next morning feels.
That is what we build at AV Sober Social Club, here in the Antelope Valley. Come to an event or join the club.
